6. Question of the Week

Q: I got a weird message from you titled 'A special game' from you. You have to be an advertising company, please remove me from your list.

A: Actually, we are not an advertising company, we have a clipart web site. I assure you that we take privacy very seriously and that the mail you received was not from any type of advertising list. We never send out any unsolicited email. Based on what your message title is, it appears that you have recieved a variant of the klez virus from an unknown party. This virus picks a random name from the infected computer's email program and sends a file to them with the virus attached. It disguises the sender by putting a random name also in the 'from' section. In this case, whoever is infected has emailed you as the random receiver and listed us as the random sender. Unfortunately, even though we don't have the virus, someone not known to us has it and will continue sending out emails randomly claiming to be us until they discover that they have the virus.

The best thing one can do about this is run their windows updates because the klez virus does not require you to open the attachment to become infected. Windows updates on your start menu, has a free critical update under product updates that will stop that. Of course, one should occasionally check in with mcafee.com to get the latest virus information and updates and scan their computer regularly. Always be wary of attachments that you aren't expecting to receive even if they are from a good friend.
