5. Question of the Week

Q: When I put the clipart on my site, it looks rough or not proportional. How do I make look like it is on the site?

A: One of two things can be happening. If you are shrinking the image in a graphics program before putting it on your webpage, then it is possible that the the dimensions are not remaining in relation to each other. Ie. It if you shrink the width of the object by half, you have to make sure you shrink the height of the object by half. If you try to make it square and it is not a square object, then it will not remain proportional. The other thing with shrinking is that it is removing pixels, so sometimes the program does not make the best decision in which pixels it removes, creating roughness. Perhaps try reloading the original image and shrinking to a little bigger than the size that looked rough. The reason you want to use the original image is because if you just resize up again, the computer has to often guess which pixels to put in, and this may cause blurriness. If you are not into shrinking with a graphics program, you can use the full size object on your page and 'crop' it so that it is the size you want. Most of the graphical web page creation programs allow you to resize your image via cropping. This is usually done by floating above the corner of the image until you get a double sided arrow. If you click and drag the mouse it resizes the image. However, the trick that is often overlooked is contraining proportions by holding the shift key as you drag. Another way, which helps you make sure that the proportions are even is to look at the number of pixels width and height, and then change those numbers in your page editor or in the html code by dividing each side by the exact same number until you get close to your desired size. Ie. Our example graphic has a width of 250 pixels, and a height of 310 pixels. We want it to be smaller so we change the width in the html to 125 and the height to 155(both original numbers divided by 2). We test it and it looks fine. If it starts getting rough edges, crop it to a slightly larger size, perhaps by dividing by 1.5 instead of 2. Hope this helps, if anyone needs help with their particular case, please drop me an email and I can try to help.

8. Final Notes

Details of our monthly draw: FREE MONEY FROM CLIPS AHOY! We have a monthly draw in which we give away $20 to an active subscriber. Why? Because we appreciate the interest you show in our work by being a subscriber. The rules are as follows: We take everyone who subscribed to our newsletter and we draw a name. We throw the name out if it is a blank(so make sure that if you didn't submit your name when you subscribed, then email us your name and email address) We list the name in the newsletter as a winner and ask them to email their postal address. The winner should email us with the same email that they get their newsletter. The best way to do this is press your reply button and then tell us you are the winner and your mailing address is..... If they email us before we release the next newsletter, then we mail them a check or money order. We are not responsible any mail related, email or postal, problem regarding you winning. If the winner responds and their subscription is listed as inactive then they are not eligible. You are listed as inactive if you unsubscribed or we removed you from the mailing list. If you notice that you are not recieving your weekly newsletter all of a sudden, it is possible that you were turned inactive because of an email problem. Ie. Our newsletter mailer indicates that your email bounced back to us. You may want to contact us to reactivate. If the winner does not contact us before the next newsletter is released then we draw another name, and start the process over. The new name is now referred to as current winner and the same conditions apply. If we draw every newsletter and the monthly draw overlaps, then $20 is added and the prize is higher until it is won. If three monthly draws overlap, the prize is 3x$20 for one winner. The new draw is always the first newsletter of the month. Winners are reentered and are eligible as long as they are an active subscriber.

Thanks for reading our newsletter. Please feel free to check out all of our new clipart, and watch for new additions. When you are on our site, please click on the big banner at the top of as many pages as you can. Our sponsors appreciate your traffic.
