Free Money from Clips Ahoy! We have a monthly draw in which we draw a name from our active subscribers. Why? Because we appreciate your interest in our site. Active subscriber is the key word though, if we draw someone that is listed as unsubscibed we have to draw again. 5. Question of the Week

Q: How are images made transparent? (so that if you put it on a colored background it is not a white square)

A: We use fireworks, but many graphics programs allow you to do this. When making transparency a color is essentially made invisible. Most often that color is white, but that doesn't make the nicest eyes if your webpage is blue. What would have to be done is you use a fill color and make behind the picture a gray or some color that you are not using. You use the selector tool to select that color as the one you want invisible. All instances of that particular shade of color will turn invisible. Sometimes there may be speckles, they are another shade of your transparent color, ie gray. You will have to select those with the tool as well. Sometimes, you will find that the one speckle is the same shade as something else, in which case you would have to color over that shade, and try again. Since there are so many different graphics software packages, I could write chapters trying to address each, so this is only the basics. The best thing you could do is go to a search engine and put in a search for how to make transparent images and look for the program you intend to use such as photoshop, fireworks, gif construction set, or whichever.
